Install from 1.5RC4 to 1.5stable done!

January 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

unzipping seems to work fine for this install. Good notes on this at the joomla forums. Especially no problem if no original templates have been modified. Unzip to install, then do as the clip says: remove thy install folder.

Upgrading to 1.5 Stable (Joomla)

Yes, you can overwrite all file just unpacked the file of stable package or you can find the different between RC4 package and stable package with a comparison software (likes meld for linux and winmerge for windows) and overwrite only the different files.
In the upgrading tutorial you can read that there isn’t difference in database between RC4 and stable version. If you do this your site will upgrade to stable version. Remember make a backup before.
I updated my Joomla! 1.5RC4 with stable package and now it works very well.
I overwrite all file.
I verified that there wasn’t difference in databases between 1.5RC4 and 1.5stable (see installation/sql/mysql/diff.sql).

Clipmarks Discussion

January 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

So um ye…ah, where’s the help forum? I’ve got a new vehicle and no manual? Thas’ how we roll at Clipmarks! Hey, I’m up for it, just want to whine a little.

I want to learn how best to use this software, but there’s nowhere to discuss it at clipmarks. I hope they add some kind of forum at some point.

Videos: Which work in which kinds of blogs again? ’cause I cannae seem to make youtube work in WordPress, though Clipmarks says “We’re o.k. to go…..we’re o.k. to go”

A Clipmarks overview from awhile ago, and the Clipmarks official blog (here at wordpress.com, with Youtubulars working! Grr…).

I’ll post any super secrets I find, when I find them (because nothing is fun if it ‘just works’, right?). Hey, maybe I’ll clip-to-blog ‘em!

So, how evil is Facebook, really?

With friends like these …

I despise Facebook. This enormously successful American business describes itself as “a social utility that connects you with the people around you”. But hang on. Why on God’s earth would I need a computer to connect with the people around me? Why should my relationships be mediated through the imagination of a bunch of supergeeks in California? What was wrong with the pub?

In the main, they simply sit back and watch as millions of Facebook addicts voluntarily upload their ID details, photographs and lists of their favourite consumer objects. Once in receipt of this vast database of human beings, Facebook then simply has to sell the information back to advertisers, or, as Zuckerberg puts it in a recent blog post, “to try to help people share information with their friends about things they do on the web”. And indeed, this is precisely what’s happening. On November 6 last year, Facebook announced that 12 global brands had climbed on board.
I use Facebook every day now. I’m pretty well hooked. But this article, which talks about the intellectual pedigree (Girard), political sympathies (“Thatcherite”) and financial connections (the CIA) of its board, gives me the creeps in a big way.
